Dear Nancy,

Firstly I am not that bothered at all. I just love a good discussion :o) What do you call it - a devils advocate? So, I will just dissect your comments to analyse and attack them ;o)

I do not necessarily agree that vegetarians are more animal caring than normal eaters. Vegans seem to have placed a romantic human-like concept on animals; meaning that they might hesitate to show leadership and power towards animals that only understand that language. In effect cuddling and spoiling their dog, which then turns into a little dictator that bites other dogs and humans.

You move on to the part about evil and good. First of all I am sure that you agree that humans invented the concept of good and evil? Not animals. Consider child abuse, incest and rape in the animal kingdom, without laughing. That happens daily! As for animals killing to eat only; I am sad to say that it is not so. Even herbivore animals murder outsiders and enemies. Cats are famed for "playing with the food" and often do not bother eating it afterwards. Dolphins and monkeys are the same.

Uneducatedness bothers me. It bothers me when people run politics based on their personal feelings and poor knowledge of reality. Again I discern between normal vegetarians and "political vegans" who feel we should not eat honey as it hurts the animals, that we can't drink milk, cheese, etc.

I think that vegans/vegetarians may be more sensitive to the needs of animals. That makes some sense, doesn't it? I don't think they are being anti-human. I think they are showing us the dark capabilities of the human race. You must agree that humans can be cruel. Look at the statistics for child abuse, rape, murder....etc. There are people who would no more think of hurting an animal than hurting a person. This doesn't mean that they think about superiority or inferiority of humans. This just means that they are compassionate people. I don't know why this bothers you. I don't mean that in a bad way. I have no animosity toward you at all. You seem like a nice person. But I would ask myself why the perceptions or beliefs of others bothers you so much. You are right; we live by human rules and human dogma, but look how much that has hurt us. We, as humans, are the worst war mongers on the planet. Animals kill for need, humans kill sometimes for sport. How does that make sense to you?

Dear Nancy,

Thank you for your comments. However I am discerning between "political vegans" and vegetarians. I do not believe you fall into the "political vegan" category and I have all the respect for your personal choice not to eat meat. I think it would be easy not to eat meat and considering that modern occidental man is not exactly starved; it is hardly necessary any more to get the extra nutritional boost that meat gives us.

My issue with political vegans and what I saw on Cathy's 2 Facebook pages were that they were drowning in what I would describe as political SPAM about cute looking puppies, kittens and anti-human comments. Humans are de facto superior to animals. We rule this world and we decides (in fact we invented) what is right and wrong. Personally I think that we should treat animals respectful and I believe that torturing or hurting animals for no purpose should be punished.

As to crashing Knights of Columbus meetings; sure I would. I am disgusted with religious people and dogma. Religion is counter-productive for humans and when-ever religious groups happen to do good it is as a dysfunction to their real aim.

Hi Jens,
I guess I am getting into this debate late in the game. I have read through your posts and you have some interesting thoughts about vegetarians. The one issue I have that I would like to address is your thinking that all vegans/vegetarians are city dwellers. I grew up in South Philly, not the most socially conscious place in the world. I was born in 1955. Meat was a staple (especially in our Italian community), salads were served at the end of the meal, almost as an afterthought. My first real memory of eating meat....when put in my mouth, it tasted bad. And it had an aftertaste that made me gag. I sat at the table every night, staring at the meat I was supposed to eat before I could leave the table. I found great ways to hide it.....but was always found out! My parents punished me for not liking the taste of meat. To make a long story short, I left the city at 19 and moved to a more country town setting. Living in the country environment did not make me like meat any better. So I have to disagree with your city dweller theory. There are just some people that don't like meat! Just like there are some people that don't like mushrooms. The facebook site that Cathy has put up is just a place where vegetarians/vegans can come to share recipes and offer support. Do you think it is easy to be a vegetarian?? The only analogy I can give you is that its like being left handed (which I am). The world we live in is geared toward right handed persons. We lefties have learned to live in a right handed world. So would you go onto a website and criticize left handed people? I have no more control over whether I like meat than I do about being left handed. Try to understand that, get passed this and move on. Don't purposely annoy people that are just gathering together because of their belief. Do you crash the Knights of Columbus or the A.A.? Move on child. Thank you!

Dear Chanel,

I am not sure if you are the same person as either of the other people I have spoken to.
I completely agree that it can be beneficial to your body to be a vegetarian and I have never said that I had any problems with people that choose to be vegetarians (as unnatural as it might be for an omnivore like man). In fact my dear grandmother has been a vegetarian since the First World War!

What I discern between is "being a vegetarian" and "being a political vegan". Obviously you belong to the last part as you are quick to mention the other popular things you are/have been fighting for (gay rights, women rights, environment, etc) and top it off by deciding that you are able to judge what "good moral" is :o)

Your next rant-part about omnivores (I don't believe that you have ever met a pure carnivore human?) being unintelligent and defending themselves with dogma like the bible and comments like "plants have feeling too" is entertaining. Again it clearly shows that you have disdain for the opinions of other people; and have long since placed yourself at the top of the moral mountain, where you decide what is right and wrong.

You then mention the damage that humans have done to the world. Now this is in particular offensive as it is the typical unnatural and anti-human dogma that is released from your lobby on a regular basis. What damage have we made to the world? And where is it exactly that you see vegetarians being the forerunners in countering it? Please, remember again the distinction between vegetarians and vegans as I have mentioned earlier.

Your last part is truly entertaining and shows that you should maybe study a bit more. Animals rape, murder (for pleasure), over-populate, destroy habitats and steal just as much as humans do. You contradict yourself (again) here, as you clearly demonstrates both a disdain for humans and at the same time say that we know better than animals.

Apart from the fact that you somehow don't see the difference between o and 0 I enjoyed your comment, and I hope that you will continue the fight and bring some friends. As you might know I was banned from Cathy's Facebook page (one of her reasons being that no-one wanted to hear these views) - but I believe my blog here will do fine :)
